how do i install 1" glass mosaic tile into the border of my 4 x 4 porcelain tile kitchen backsplash?
We are installing a 4x4 porcelain tile backsplash in our kitchen. We want to add a 1x1 border trim of glass mosaic tile to add some interest. We aren't sure how to do that considering the porcelain is about double the thickness of the mosaic tile. We were concerned with just trying to build out the mastic to the right thickness for fear that we wouldn't be successful. How is this typically handled? I'm sure people have added mosaic tiles in with regular ceramic tiles. How did they do it?
I think you would have to use thinset not mastic. apply in 2 applications and be sure to use white thin set not grey if glass is see thru and make sure thinset is smooth on second coat no grooves or it Will show thruogh the glass.
